MKS: So You Want to Be Rich…

If you want to become rich, you have to be willing to take some risk. “Studies have shown that the affluent more frequently take above-average — but not senseless — investment risk, generally report understanding risk, and have an understanding of the risk and return characteristics of investments.

To get rich really fast with no money:

  • 1. Develop “that” mindset. Develop the habit of “getting rich slow” than “getting rich quick.”. Wealthy people have two rules with regard to money.
  • 2. Surround yourself with the right people.
  • 3. Develop the habits.
  • 4. Find mentors.
  • 3. Make savings consistent.

7 steps to becoming a millionaire:

Develop a written financial plan. Save, save, save. Live below your means. Lay off the credit. Invest in ways that work for you. Start your own business. Get professional advice.

18 Resolutions To Get Rich in 2021

I Will Be More Aware of My Financial Situation

If you want to be rich, it seems obvious that you should know where you stand financially. People often sense that they aren’t in a good financial place but don’t want to be aware of how potentially bad their situation is.

Being aware of your financial situation and keeping it in mind all the time is the key to improving your finances and growing your wealth. Your resolution should be to understand what you have, know where you want to be in the future and decide how you plan to get there.

I Will Create a Realistic Budget

This resolution goes hand-in-hand with being more aware of your financial situation. To increase your wealth, you have to know where your money is going. But many people often don’t.

I Will Treat My Finances Like a Business

To grow your money, vow to treat your personal finances like a business. Businesses must adhere to this set of rules, otherwise they would cease to exist. To treat your finances like a business, you must develop a budget, review your income and expenses on a monthly basis, create a net worth statement and make sure you’re profitable. That doesn’t necessarily mean putting your money into the stock market; look to invest in yourself through education or start a side business.

I Will Get and Remain Debt-Free

Rather than throw away your money on interest payments, you can make it work for you by stashing it in an account or investments that earn interest. Not relying on credit cards, lines of credit and borrowing to live your lifestyle is a proven way to become wealthy. Create a plan to pay off your debt as fast as possible. Then you’ll free up more cash to invest and grow your wealth.

I Will Be Frugal With My Money

An easy way to get rich is to keep more of your money. Being frugal will enable you to increase the amount of money you can save. Examine your bank and credit card statements to see how much of your money is going toward things you need versus things you want. Cut back on unnecessary purchases and look for ways to spend the least possible on things you need by shopping around for the lowest price.

I Will Cut My Biggest Expense: Housing

Take frugality a step further by slashing your biggest expense to free up more money for saving and investing. When most people make financial resolutions, they think small. Housing is the biggest expenditure for U.S. consumers — with one-third of total household spending going toward this cost, on average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. You can score big savings if you’re willing to move. This might mean moving to a smaller house, to a different neighborhood or to another city where the cost of living is lower.

I Will Find a Mentor

A mentor can help you get on the path toward riches by offering you advice, opportunities to advance your career or guidance for launching or improving your own business. Mentors can teach you success habits, change your beliefs, how to think, how to achieve goals, specific processes that lead to success and shortcuts to success.

I Will Boost My Retirement Account Contributions

If you want to be rich, you likely will need to commit to saving more.

I Will Save Half of My Income

More people are able to do this than they realize. For example, if you’re married and both you and your spouse work, consider living on one income and saving the other.

I Will Save My Money in Smart Places

Chances are you’re missing a great opportunity to grow your money by getting a tax refund each year. That’s right — if you get a big check each spring, that means you’re letting Uncle Sam hang onto your money interest-free during the year. People are happy when they get their own money back at zero interest. If they had stashed the income tax refund in their 401(k), they’d have kept the money, saved the taxes and hopefully made some market gains.

I Will Learn To Understand and Manage Risk

If you want to become rich, you have to be willing to take some risk. Studies have shown that the affluent more frequently take above-average — but not senseless investment risk, generally report understanding risk, and have an understanding of the risk and return characteristics of investments.

That doesn’t mean you should put all of your money in the stock market. But if you avoid risk by sticking only to safe investments such as money market accounts, your money won’t grow much because of the low rates on these accounts

I Will Get Paid What I’m Worth

To get rich, vow to leverage your job better financially. “This means making sure you are paid what you are worth. To find out the average pay for people in your position, check websites such as Payscale, Salary.com or Glassdoor. If you think your pay or benefits fall short, make the case for a raise. If you can’t get ahead financially at your current job, have a plan to get another position that will provide these financial benefits.

I Will Create an Additional Stream of Income

Consider getting a side hustle or second job. If you’re like most people, you’ve got one stream of income — your job. And if you’re like most people, you are either poor or stuck in the middle class. If you want to break out of poverty or the middle class, you need to begin creating multiple streams of income.

Use your extra cash to quickly get out of debt, invest in assets such as stocks or set aside in savings. You can use it to start your own business or buy a rental property for more streams of income.

I Will Pursue a Passion That Will Make Me More Money

It is the catalyst that transforms ordinary individuals into self-made millionaires. When you pursue something you are truly passionate about, you are somehow able to find the time to devote to it. So resolve to figure out what you’re passionate about this year and spend time cultivating that passion. It might mean reading books on the subject, taking courses to improve skills related to your passion or creating a business plan and pursuing funding. You must take action and invest in yourself today in order to create the future life you desire,

I Will Increase My Bandwidth

You can increase your wealth by increasing your bandwidth. Bandwidth is about what you do. For everything we do, we have opted to not do something else.

I Will Make Sure I Have Adequate, Affordable Insurance

Commit to checking your insurance policies to make sure they’re up to date and that you have ample coverage. Nothing puts a damper on growing wealth than a big, uninsured loss. Also, make sure you’re not paying more than you have to for insurance. Regularly shopping auto, home or umbrella coverage can result in real savings that can be added to investments

I Will Be Accountable

It’s one thing to vow to take steps to become rich. It’s another to stick to your resolutions. You can increase your chances of success by letting others know about your goals. One of the key factors to improving your finances is to have accountability. If you can’t hold yourself accountable, then share your goal with a trusted person. Most likely you know someone who also is trying to get ahead financially and also needs an accountability partner. Once you share your financial goals, you can help motivate each other to stay on track.

I Will Ask For Help When Needed

The rich often have help growing their wealth. So don’t assume that asking for assistance is a sign of weakness. Instead, resolve to reach out to those who can help you reach your goals. Most people who grow financially rich do so by soliciting the help of others.

Sticking to these resolutions can help you build serious wealth.

Warren Buffett’s Recommended Books to Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders

Here is what you find when you read all his shareholder letters. These 33 books Buffett discusses or recommends to shareholders in the letters, dating back to the 1970s. Some are wide-ranging; others illustrate specific points. There are also a few that Buffett recommends because of who the authors are, or simply because of his unusual sense of humor.

Below you will find quick descriptions of all 33 books. We cannot promise that they will make you a billionaire, but at least you can know that you read like one.

1. The Intelligent Investor by Ben Graham

Any list of Buffett books that does not start with this one has a lot of explaining to do. Buffett first read The Intelligent Investor, by his then-future professor, Graham, in 1949. “By far the best book on investing ever written,” Buffett calls it in one letter; years later he was still singing its praises: “My financial life changed with [the book’s] purchase.”

2. Security Analysis by Benjamin Graham and David Dodd

Less well-known, but nearly as important. This book, published in 1934 (so fairly soon after the 1929 market crash), was basically The Intelligent Investor‘s precursor — also written by Graham, but with his fellow Columbia Business School professor, Dodd.

3. The Science of Hitting by Ted Williams

Buffett mentions this book only once, in 1977, but he derives a good lesson from it. He quotes Williams, the 20th century Red Sox baseball slugger, saying that he carved the strike zone into 77 cells — each the size of a baseball — and tried only to swing at balls in his “best” cell. That, Buffett said, was sort of a metaphor for a smart but unattainable investment strategy.

4. The Warren Buffett CEO by Robert P. Miles

A 2003 examination of what makes Berkshire Hathaway’s subordinate CEOs successful. Buffett recommended it.

5. Straight from the Gut by Jack Welch

“[T]eriffic book,” by the former CEO of GE, according to Buffett. “Get a copy!”

6. Take on the Street by Arthur Levitt Jr.

This book, by a former SEC chairman, is not quite recommended by Buffett so much as he references it for having the “sordid details” of a dispute between the accounting firm Arthur Anderson and the SEC.

7. First a Dream by James L. Clayton, Sr.

This one has a good story. In Buffett’s telling, he read this book after he spoke to a group of students from the University of Tennessee, who gave him a copy as a gift. It is the autobiography of the founder of Clayton Homes, a manufactured home company. Buffett says he found the story so compelling that he wound up buying the firm.

8 – 10. Bull! A History of the Boom and Bust, 1982-2004 by Maggie Mahar

Buffett recommended this book, together with The Smartest Guys in the Room by Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind (about Enron), and In an Uncertain World, the memoir of Clinton-era treasury secretary Bob Rubin. I am reading Bull! right now, so check this space in the future.

11. Nuclear Terrorism: The Ultimate Preventable Catastrophe by Graham Allison

Buffett guides shareholders to The Bookworm bookstore in Omaha each year, encouraging them to purchase specific books. In 2005, this was his recommendation.

12 – 13. Poor Charlie’s Almanack by Peter Kaufman

Buffett recommends this book, which is based on Charlie Munger’s speeches and writings, almost every year. It went on to become quite a success, selling 50,000 copies despite no marketing according to Buffett — well, other than being hawked in one of the most-read shareholder’s letters on the planet each year. Later, Buffett also recommends From Darwin to Munger by Peter Bevelin.

14. Where Are the Customers’ Yachts? by Fred Schwed.

This one is a throwback, first published in 1940. Buffett mentions it a few times over the years, calling it “the funniest book ever written about investing,” and one that “lightly delivers many truly important messages on the subject.”

15 – 17. Giving It All Away: The Doris Buffett Story by Doris Buffett.

In 2010, Buffett recommended two books by his sons and one by his sister, respectively: FragileLife Is What You Make It, and Giving It All Away: The Doris Buffett Story.

18. Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits by Phil Fischer

Buffett says this book, first published in 1958, “ranks behind only The Intelligent Investor and the 1940 edition of Security Analysis in the all-time-best list for the serious investor.”

19. Tap Dancing to Work: Warren Buffett on Practically Everything by Carol Loomis

Compiled by Buffett’s longtime writing collaborator (including on the shareholder letters).

20 to 24. The Outsiders by William Thorndike, Jr.

We begin here with “an outstanding book about CEOs who excelled at capital allocation,” including Buffett’s friend and mentor Tom Murphy. Also recommended at the same time: The Clash of the Cultures by Jack Bogle, Laura Rittenhouse’s Investing Between the Lines — and a somewhat more narrowly targeted title: Unbeatable, which “tells the story of Nebraska football during 1993-97, a golden era in which Tom Osborne’s teams went 60-3.”

25. The Little Book of Common Sense Investing by Jack Bogle

Buffett suggested that investors who are being pitched by sales-y investment managers read this instead.

26 – 27. Berkshire Hathaway Letters to Shareholders edited by Max Olson.

As it sounds, Letters to Shareholders is a compendium of all of Buffett’s letters over the years. Buffett also recommended Andrew Kilpatrick’s book Of Permanent Value, which he delighted in describing as being 1,304 pages and weighing 9.8 pounds, as “all-encompassing coverage of Berkshire.”

28 – 29. Limping on Water by Phil Beuth

Written by a former Capital Cities Communications veteran, this book “tells you a lot about its leaders, Tom Murphy and Dan Burke,” whom Buffett describes as “the best managerial duo…that Charlie and I ever witnessed.” In the same letter, Buffett also recommended, Warren Buffett’s Ground Rules by Jeremy Miller.

30. Shoe Dog by Phil Knight

The story of Nike, by its founder; Buffett called it “the best book I read last year” (meaning 2016).

31. Common Stocks as Long-Term Investments by Edgar Lawrence Smith

This 1924 book was obscure and destined to stay that way until John Maynard Keynes reviewed it positively (specifically its points about retained earnings), and it became “a slim book that changed the investment world.” Many of its points were accepted by later works, but if you wanted to look back at the beginning, this might be a good place to start.

32. Margin of Trust by Larry Cunningham and Stephanie Cuba

Buffett recommended this only last year, as an exploration of the culture at Berkshire.

33. One Thousand Ways to Make $1000 by Frances Minaker

Buffett mentions only very briefly in the letters. But to balance those out, let us add the 1936 book that Buffett says inspired his entire career when he read it as a 7-year-old.

MKE Week 20: Creative Power to the “Kingdom of Heaven”

What does the ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ mean to you?

Week 20 of the Master Key System message focused on our Creative Power to the “Kingdom of Heaven” “within” us.

The “Kingdom of Heaven” consists of all of the following: joy, peace, patience, happiness, love, fear of God, righteousness, wisdom, understanding, purity, holiness, prosperity, abundance, health, hate of evil, etc. You cannot lack these (and many more) in you and claim to have the “Kingdom of Heaven.”

The “Kingdom of Heaven” is a spiritual Kingdom and not a visible Kingdom, which you can perceive with your natural eyes. When you become born again in the spirit and have gained access to the “Kingdom of Heaven”, this Kingdom shall become visible to you.

Metaphysical meaning of “Kingdom of Heaven”

The “Kingdom of Heaven” is a state of consciousness in which the soul, individual mind and the body are in harmony with Divine Mind.

  • Teachers of metaphysics find that their most difficult work is getting students to recognize that heaven is a condition of mind.
  • The “Kingdom of Heaven” is the orderly adjustment of divine ideas in man’s mind and body. In order to find the “Kingdom of Heaven”, man must become conscious of Divine Mind and its realm of divine ideas and be willing to adjust his thoughts to the divine standard.

Man adjusts his thought world to the kingdom of divine ideas through a process of denial by which he eliminates from consciousness all inharmonious ideas, and through affirmations of Truth by which he establishes himself in harmony with divine ideas.

The “Kingdom of Heaven” is not confined to man’s consciousness. It is everywhere present. When man’s mind, spirit and body are in harmonious relation to divine ideas, his true thoughts flow into the realm of manifestation and bring forth the Kingdom on the earth “as in heaven” for him.

In spite of the of the repeated illustrations by Jesus showing the “Kingdom of Heaven” to be a state of consciousness the great mass of Christians are today teaching that “Kingdom of Heaven” is a place to which people who accept Jesus as their Savior will go when they die. There is no authority in the Bible for such doctrine.

If such a place existed Jesus would certainly have described it plainly instead of giving parable after parable and illustration after illustration showing it to be a state of consciousness to be attained by man. In Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52, there are five short stories illustrating six different problems concerning this condition and our relation to “Kingdom of Heaven”. Applying some of the Laws of Mind as we know them, we find that Jesus was talking about universal Truth and its expression.

[1]: The mustard-seed comparison is to show the capacity of the apparently small thought of Truth to develop in consciousness until it becomes the abiding place of a higher type of thoughts (birds of the air).

[2]: The “levin” is the Truth, and the “women” is the soul. When a word of Truth is apparently hidden in the inner mind it is not idle, but quietly spreads until the whole consciousness is light with Spirit. People who have for years had this hidden word of Truth at work in them are quick to respond to a larger exposition of the divine law, and we recognize that they are ripe for receiving Truth.

[3]: The treasure hid in the Field is the logical truth that all that is belongs to Being and can be brought forth by one who gives up the outer and looks within for the real value.

[4]: The merchant is one who is seeking the jewel of the soul, or spiritual goals through exchange of thought discussion, and argument. He also must give up all these so-called values for the inner pearl.

[5]: The net cast into the sea is the state of mind that seeks Truth in many places and gets much that has to be thrown away.

The “End of the World “ is the point in consciousness where the true thoughts are in the majority and the error thoughts have lost their hold. This is the consummation of the regenerative process. Everything that has been stored up in consciousness is brought forth and becomes of visible, practical value to the man. This is the “householder” who brings forth his “things new and old.”

Using Your Creative Process to Reach Your “Kingdom of Heaven.”

The Master Key System tells us the creative process is the act of making new connections between old ideas. Creative thinking is the task of recognizing relationships between concepts.

One way to approach creative challenges is by following the five-step process of 1) gathering material, 2) intensely working over the material in your mind, 3) stepping away from the problem, 4) allowing the idea to come back to you naturally, and 5) testing your idea in the real world and adjusting it based on feedback.

The Master Key System tells us for many years there has been an endless discussion as to the origin of evil. Theologians have told us that God is Love, and that God is Omnipresent. If this be true, there is no place where God is not.

  • God is Spirit.
  • Spirit is the Creative Principle of the Universe.
  • Man is made in the image and likeness of God.
  • Man is therefore a spiritual being.

Where, then, is Evil, Satan and Hell? Only in your mind and thoughts. They are nothing more than our negative thoughts.

Image result for yout power to think

The First Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Your Power to Think

The only activity which spirit possesses is the power to think. Thinking is therefore a creative process.

All form is therefore the result of our thinking process. The destruction of form is also be a result of our thinking process.

Form is the result of our creative power of thought. Organization and constructive work of all kinds are the result of our creative power of thought and concentration.

When the creative power of our thought is manifested for our benefit, we call the result good. When the creative power of our thought is manifested in a destructive or evil manner, we call it evil. Thus, the first step in applying your Creative Power to think is to think positively and not negatively. Thought necessarily precedes and predetermines action; action precedes and predetermines condition.

Image result for RECOGNITION

The Second Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is in your Recognition

The spirit of a thing is that thing; it is necessarily fixed, changeless, and eternal.

The spirit of you is – you. Without the spirit you would be nothing. The spirit becomes active through your recognition of spirit and its possibilities. You may have all the wealth in Christendom, but unless you recognize spirit and make use of it, spirit will have no value.

The one and only condition of spiritual power is use or recognition of your spiritual power. All great things come through recognition. The scepter of power is consciousness, and thought is its messenger.

This messenger [thought] is constantly molding the realities of the invisible world into the conditions and environments of your objective world.

You are at all times dealing with the magical power of thought and consciousness.

Know that unless we are willing to think we shall have to do all the work. Know that the less we think the more we shall have to do, and the less we shall get for our work.

Image result for THE SECRET POWER

The Third Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Using Your SECRET Power Your secret of power is a perfect understanding of the principles, forces, methods, and combinations of Mind. It is a perfect understanding of our relationship to the Universal Mind.

When you begin to perceive that the essence of the Universal is within yourself — is you — you begin to do things.

You begin to feel your power. The essence of the Universal is within.

Recognition is the fuel which fires the imagination. It lights the torch of inspiration. It gives vitality to thought.  It enables you to connect with all the invisible forces of the Universe so you can “Lead the Field”.

The essence of the Universal is within you. Recognition is the power enables you to plan fearlessly, to execute masterfully.

Image result for IMAGINATION

The Fourth Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Using Your Imagination

Perception will come only in the Silence.  Perception is condition required for all great purposes.

You are a visualizing entity. Imagination is your workshop. It is here that your ideal is to be visualized.

As a perfect understanding of the nature of this power is a primary condition for its manifestation.

Visualize the entire method over and over again, so that you may use it whenever occasion requires.

The infinity of wisdom is to follow the method whereby we may have the inspiration of the omnipotent Universal Mind on demand at any time.

If we can fail to recognize this world within, we can exclude it from our

Consciousness, but it will still be the basic fact of all existence.

When we learn to recognize it, shall have found the “Kingdom of heaven” “within” us.

OUR FAILURES ARE CREATED WITH OUR THOUGHT

Our failures are a result of the operation of exactly the same principle.

The principle is unchangeable; its operation is exact, there is no deviation.

  • if we think lack, limitation, discord, we shall find their fruits on every hand.
  •  if we think poverty, unhappiness or disease, the thought messengers will carry the summons as readily as any other kind of thought and the result will be just as certain.
  •  If we fear a coming calamity, we shall be able to say with Job, “the thing I feared has come upon me”.
  • if we think unkindly or ignorantly, we shall thus attract to ourselves the results of our ignorance.

The Fifth Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Using Your Power of Thought

If understood and correctly used, is the greatest labor-saving device ever dreamed of.  If not understood or improperly used, the result will in all probability be disastrous, as we have already seen.

By the help of this power, you can confidently undertake things that are seemingly impossible, because this power is the secret of all inspiration, all genius.

Image result for INSPIRATION

The Sixth Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Becoming Inspired. INSPIRATION: To become inspired means to get out of the beaten path, out of the rut, because extraordinary results require extraordinary means.

When we come into a recognition of the Unity of all things and that the source of all power is within, we tap the source of inspiration. Inspiration is the art of imbibing, the art of self-realization; the art of adjusting the individual mind to that of the Universal Mind.

Inspiration is the art of attaching the proper mechanism to the source of all power.

  • It is the art of differentiating the formless into form.
  • It is the art of becoming a channel for the flow of Infinite Wisdom.
  • It is the art of visualizing perfection.
  • It is the art of realizing the omnipresence of Omnipotence.

An understanding and appreciation of the fact that the infinite power is omnipresent and is therefore in the infinitely small as well as the infinitely large will enable us to absorb its essence.

A further understanding of the fact that this power is spirit and therefore indivisible will enable us to appreciate its present at all points at the same time.

An understanding of these facts, first intellectually and then emotionally, will enable us to drink deeply from this ocean of infinite power.

An intellectual understanding will be of no assistance. The emotions must be brought into action. Thought without feeling is cold. The required combination is thought and feeling.

Image result for IN THE SLIENCE

The Seventh Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Going Into the Silence.

Inspiration is from within. The Silence is necessary, the senses must be stilled, the muscles relaxed, repose cultivated. When you have thus come into possession of a sense of poise and power you will be ready to receive the information or inspiration or wisdom which may be necessary for the development of your purpose.

Inspiration is the art of receiving and makes for all that is best in life.

  • Your business in life is to understand and command these invisible forces instead of letting them command and rule you.

Power implies service. Inspiration implies power to understand and apply the method of inspiration is to become a superman.

  • We can live more abundantly every time we breathe if we consciously breathe with that intention.

The IF is a very important condition in this case, as the intention governs the attention, and without the attention you can secure only the results which everyone else secures.

That is, a supply equal to the demand.

The Eight Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Applying the Law of Increase.

In order to secure the larger supply your demand must be increased. As you consciously increase your demand the supply will follow.  You will find yourself coming into a larger and larger supply of life, energy, and vitality.

The reason for this is not difficult to understand. It is another of the vital mysteries of life which does not seem to be generally appreciated. If you make it your own, you will find it one of the great realities of life.

We are told that “In Him we live and move and have our being,” and we are told that “He” is a Spirit, and again that “He” is Love, so that every time we breathe, we breathe this life, love, and spirit.

Every time we breathe, we fill our lungs with air and at the same time vitalize our body with this Pranic Ether, which is Life itself, so that we have the opportunity of making a conscious connection with All Life, All Intelligence and All Substance.

A knowledge of your relation and oneness with this Principle gives you a scientific understanding of a Law whereby you may free yourself from disease, from lack or limitation of any kind. In fact, it enables you.

Breathe the “breath of life” into your own nostrils. This “breath of life” is a superconscious reality. It is the essence of the “I am.” It is pure “Being” or Universal Substance, and our conscious unity with it enables us to localize it, and thus exercise the powers of this creative energy.

The Ninth Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Your Thought

Thought is creative vibration. The quality of the conditions created depends upon the quality of our thought, because we cannot express powers which we do not possess.

We must “be” before we can “do” and we can “do” only to the extent to which we “are,” and so what we do will necessarily coincide with what we “are” and what we are depends upon what we “think.”

Every time you think you start a train of causation which will create a condition in strict accordance with the quality of the thought which originated it. Thought which is in harmony with the Universal Mind will result in corresponding conditions.

Thought which is destructive or discordant will produce corresponding results.

You may use thought constructively or destructively, but the immutable Law will not allow you to plant a thought of one kind and reap the fruit of another. You are free to use this marvelous creative power as you will, but you must take the consequences. This is the danger from what is called Will Power.

There are those who seem to think that by force of will they can coerce this Law; that they can sow seed of one kind and by “Will Power” make it bear fruit of another. But the fundamental principle of creative power is in the Universal, and therefore the idea of forcing a compliance with our wishes by the power of the individual will is an inverted conception which may appear to succeed for a while but is eventually doomed to failure.

Because it antagonizes the very power which it is seeking to use.

It is the individual attempting to coerce the Universal, the finite in conflict with the Infinite. Our permanent well being will be best conserved by a conscious cooperation with the continuous forward movement of the Great Whole.

The Tenth Step in applying your Creative Power to Get to the “Kingdom of Heaven” is Exercising Your Powers of “I AM”.

My exercise this week was go into the Silence and concentrate on the fact that “In him we live and move and have our being” That this exercise is literally and scientifically exact!

That I AM because He IS, that if He is Omnipresent, He must be in you. That if He is all in all you must be in Him! That He is Spirit, and I am made in “His image and likeness” and that the only difference between His spirit and your spirit is one of degree, that a part must be the same in kind and quality as the whole.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-67.png

When I can realize this clearly I will have found the Secrets of my creative power.

  • I will have found the origin of creating what I want in my life through my thoughts and actions.
  • I will have found the origin of both good and evil in my life. [My Thoughts].
  • I will have found the Secret of the wonderful power of my concentration on the “Kingdom of Heaven.”
  • I will have found the key to the solution of every problem whether physical, financial, or environmental.

MKS: How Much Money Does Your Family Need to Get By?

Is Your Cost of Living Too High? Are you coming up well short because the “Cost of Living Too High?” What do you need to cover expenses? How much money do Americans need to maintain a modest standard of living, where families don’t struggle to put food on the table or pay the rent?

The results of a recent study should make it clear that — based on median costs and the 50/30/20 rule — many of America’s city-dwellers are most likely coming up well short of what they need to cover expenses. That has to mean that many urbanites are having to find other ways to make ends meet and stretch their budget as far as possible.

In most large U.S. cities, meeting that basic level of economic security requires income that’s far beyond the federal poverty line, which is often used to measure what families need to survive, according to a new study from the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute.

Indeed, the federal poverty line is increasingly outdated, no longer accurately marking the boundary between getting by and financial hardship, according to EPI senior economist Elise Gould, one of the researchers who worked on the project to assess what families today need to meet a modest standard of living.

The poverty threshold fails to take into account geographical differences, such as the higher rents in cities such as San Francisco, and also hasn’t kept up with the rising cost of health care, among other issues, Gould contends.

Take the federal poverty cutoff for a family of four, which stood at $23,850 last year. That income level is about half of what a family of four would need to get by in the country’s least expensive metropolitan area — Morristown, Tennessee. The researchers estimate that a two-parent, two-child family in the town of roughly 30,000 would require gross income of $49,114 simply to cover rent, taxes, food, transportation, childcare and other basics.

For families of four living in the 10 largest family budget areas (see chart below), the U.S. median household income of $53,046 would fall short in every location, EPI found. The most expensive city, not surprisingly, is New York, where a family of four needs $98,722 to afford their basic needs. The median household income in the Big Apple stands at only $58,003.

The discussion of what households require to afford the basics comes at a tough time for many Americans, given that real wages have been treading water for decades. Adjusted for inflation, the average U.S. hourly wage peaked in 1973, according to Pew Research. In the meantime, costs for everything from health care to housing have surged.

There are at least a few cities that would appear to offer a chance to get by on less. The city with the smallest gap between its median earnings and cost of living — Virginia Beach — gets there largely by having a very affluent populace that drives the median income up over $70,000.

Four cities, though, have a median income of about $50,000 a year and still fall within $20,000 of the income needed to get by for homeowners: Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Omaha and Columbus. So, if you’re looking for city life that’s still affordable for the middle class, your best bet appears to be on the high plains.

Cost of Living Areas

San Francisco

  • Median income: $96,265
  • Income needed if you’re a homeowner: $230,286
  • Income needed if you’re a renter: $164,214

San Francisco is the most affluent city in this study, with a median income of almost six figures. Despite that, median earners there who own their own home are further from the income necessary to live comfortably than residents of any other city on this list. Even a six-figure income is less than half what you need to own your home and still spend just half your income on necessities in The City.

Oakland, California

  • Median income: $63,251
  • Income needed if you’re a homeowner: $145,274
  • Income needed if you’re a renter: $128,282

The first of three cities in the San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland is an extremely costly place to live. Despite a relatively strong median income of $63,251 a year, residents hoping to own their own home need to increase their income by more than $81,000 a year if they want to hit the 50/30/20 rule while paying average costs.

San Jose, California

  • Median income: $96,662
  • Income needed if you’re a homeowner: $197,502
  • Income needed if you’re a renter: $143,670

Of course, right next door in San Jose, incomes are even higher. Yet, the median income remains over $100,000 short of what you need to live comfortably while owning your own home, but it’s over $30,000 closer than it is in nearby San Francisco.

Sacramento, California

  • Median income: $54,615
  • Income needed if you’re a homeowner: $94,160
  • Income needed if you’re a renter: $92,336

California’s capital city is northeast of San Francisco, Oakland and the rest of the high-cost Bay Area. However, it does seem as though some of the costs have migrated there, as you’ll need to make over $90,000 a year to live comfortably.

GOBankingRates found the cost of living in America’s 50 biggest cities by analyzing the following factors:

  •  (1) Cost of living index for groceries, utilities, transportation and healthcare sourced from Sperling’s Best Places. Each index was multiplied by the annual expenditure amount in each category from Bureau of Labor Statistics’ 2017 Consumer Expenditure Survey, which measures household annual mean expenditures to determine the annual mean spending for each category.
  • (2) Rent costs were sourced from Zillow’s February 2019 rental value index for single-family residences and were multiplied by 12 to obtain an annualized yearly spending on rent.
  • (3) Mortgage rates were based off Zillow’s February 2019’s median home value, and Zillow’s mortgage Calculator was used to determine the monthly mortgage payment for each given city based off the cities home value and a 30-year fixed loan. Mortgage payments were multiplied by 12 to obtain an annualized amount.
  • (4) Median household income was sourced from Census Bureau’s 2017 American Community Survey (this is income prior to being taxed). Once all the data was found, the annual expenditure amount was calculated by adding together the annual spending for each category.
  • GOBankingRates found the annual expenditures for both people paying a mortgage payment and for people who are paying rent separately and the median income is subtracted by annual expenditures for those paying a mortgage and those renting to see how much money is needed or left over for each city.

  • GOBankingRates then used the 50/20/30 rule which assumes that 50% of income should go towards necessities, 30% should go towards discretionary spending and 20% should go towards savings. The 50% income is the city’s annual expenditure, and that amount is used to find the additional income needed for splurges and savings.   Living in America: Salary You Need in 50 Cities (Study 2019) | GOBankingRates
