Michael Kissinger’s Unity Church Minister Training, Mentoring and Coaching
His Unity Church training and coaching was centered on The Five Basic Principles, which serve as the foundational “spiritual laws” for the movement. While these were formulated in the 1990s by Connie Fillmore to make the complex metaphysical teachings of founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore easier to teach, they are now the primary curriculum for spiritual development and leadership training which Michael Kissinger learned, taught, and mentored on.
The Five Basic Principles
These principles are often taught using the “I Am” acronyms to help students internalize them:
- God is All (Omnipotence): There is only one Presence and one Power active in the universe and in our lives: God the Good.
- Our Divinity (I Am): Human beings have a spark of divinity within them; our essence is of God, and therefore we are inherently good.
- Creative Power (I Think): We are co-creators with God, creating our reality through thoughts held in the Mind (the “Law of Mind Action”).
- Affirmative Prayer (I Pray): Through prayer and meditation, we align our heart-mind with God. This practice uses tools like denials (releasing the power of negative appearances) and affirmations (claiming spiritual truth).
- Living the Truth (I Do): Knowing these principles is not enough; we must actively live the Truth we know through our thoughts, words, and actions.
Core Training Methods
His Unity’s approach to spiritual “training” is practical and experiential rather than dogmatic:
- Metaphysical Bible Interpretation: Students are trained to view the Bible as a representation of the soul’s journey toward awakening, rather than just historical text.
- The 12 Powers System: Advanced training often focuses on the “12 Powers” (e.g., Faith, Love, Strength, Wisdom), which are inherent spiritual capacities students learn to develop.
- Silence: A central training practice is “the Silence,” a deep meditative state used to experience direct communion with the Divine.
- Leadership Programs: Formal education for Licensed Unity Teachers (LUTs) and ministers is managed through the Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute, which uses competency-based and experiential learning models.
More Metaphysical Training,
Mentoring and Coaching by Michael Kisingerand the principles that focus on the relationship between consciousness, energy, and the physical world to facilitate personal transformation and spiritual growth. Unlike purely physical training, these principles address the “whole person”—mind, body, and spirit—by working with unseen forces and universal laws.
Core Metaphysical Principles
- Mind-Body-Spirit Connection: The foundational belief that mental, physical, and spiritual health are inextricably linked. Training focuses on harmonizing these three aspects to achieve overall well-being.
- Energy and Vibration: Everything in the universe is composed of energy vibrating at different frequencies. Metaphysical training teaches practitioners to raise their vibrational frequency to attract positive experiences and align with their “highest potential”.
- Energy Follows Attention: This principle posits that wherever you focus your attention, your energy will follow. Training often involves “attention training” through meditation and mindful awareness to harness this creative power.
- Creative Power of Thought: A core tenet is that thoughts have the power to shape reality and attract experiences. Training involves identifying and releasing “limiting beliefs” and replacing them with intentional, creative thinking.
- Interconnectedness: The belief that all life forms and the universe are interconnected. This principle encourages practitioners to recognize their “divine spark” and their role within the larger universal whole.
Foundational Training Practices
- Meditation and Mindfulness: These are essential tools for developing self-awareness, calming the nervous system, and accessing inner wisdom.
- Creative Visualization: Using the power of the mind to imagine and manifest desired outcomes by aligning thoughts and emotions with specific goals.
- Energy Healing: Techniques such as Reiki, chakra balancing, and aura cleansing are used to clear “energetic blockages” and restore harmony.
- Daily Spiritual Practice: Consistency is often prioritized over intensity. Regular “spiritual reps”—such as prayer, reflection, or reading sacred texts—are viewed as the surest path to lasting change.
- Living the Truth: It is not enough to understand metaphysical concepts; they must be integrated into daily life and reflected in one’s actions and character.
General Metaphysical Training, Mentoring and Coaching Principles
Kissinger’s Metaphysical Training, Mentoring and Coaching focused on the principles of cultivating conscious awareness, aligning thoughts with desired realities, and fostering spiritual growth over physical, mental, or emotional outcomes. Core tenets involve personal responsibility, the belief that inner states create outer experiences, and regular practices like meditation and mindfulness to align with universal wisdom.
Key Metaphysical Training Principles
- The Power of Consciousness: We are souls having a human experience, with the capacity to shape reality through focused intention and thought.
- Energy Follows Attention: What you focus on, you energize. Directing attention intentionally is key to transformation.
- Internal Responsibility: Outer circumstances are reflections of inner states. Personal accountability for one’s thoughts and emotions unlock true freedom and growth.
- The Law of Correspondence: “As within, so without.” Aligning one’s inner world of thoughts and emotions creates a peaceful, harmonious external life.
- The Power of Now: Spiritual evolution is a continuous process occurring in the present moment, rather than an event in the past or future.
- Self-Correction: Actively identifying and addressing “unresolved issues;” anything that disturbs inner peace—is vital for spiritual progress.
Methods for Training
- Meditation/Silence: Cultivating a quiet mind to connect with, and listen to, inner guidance.
- Affirmative Prayer: Using focused thought to align with positive, divine, or universal intelligence.
- Gratitude and Love: Actively practicing unconditional love and gratitude to heighten vibrational levels.
- Mindfulness: Maintaining awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, and reactions throughout the day.
- Visualization: Imagining a desired reality to influence its physical manifestation.
