He goes so far as to say that no thought, regardless of whether it is a positive thought or a negative thought, could enter the mind without the use of autosuggestion.
- Autosuggestion is one of the core concepts of Napoleon Hill. It’s a way of conditioning, or reprogramming your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind has all the resources to make things happen for you.
It is the agency of control through which an individual may voluntarily feed his subconscious mind on thoughts of a creative nature, or, by neglect, permit thoughts of a destructive nature to find their way into this rich garden of the mind.
- Autosuggestion is self-suggestion. It is the agency of communication between that part of the mind where conscious thought takes place, and that which serves as the seat of action for the subconscious mind.
- Autosuggestion reaches the subconscious mind through the dominating thoughts which one permitsto remain in the conscious mind, (whether these thoughts be negative or positive, is immaterial), the principle of auto-suggestion voluntarily reaches the subconscious mind and influences it with these thoughts.
- Autosuggestion is one of the steps mentioned as key to turning the desire for wealth into riches. I must admit when I first read the book that I have not given much attention to this step.
Why? Simply because It says something like this “ write down the object of your desire then read it aloud several times every day until it is impressed in your subconscious mind.” And I don’t want to look embarrassed reading out my dream of owning a Rolls-Royce.
Why is autosuggestion important in transforming dreams into reality?
Autosuggestion allows you to feed your subconscious mind with creating a thought about building health or wealth. Autosuggestion is a deliberate and active process that allows you to influence your subconscious mind instead of your environment changing you. It enables you to become the master of yourself and your environment. It allows you to control and achieve the outcome you want in the future by working on your mind today
The secret to success in using Autosuggestion is mixing your dominant thought with emotion to get into your subconscious mind.
Why? Because the subconscious mind is where you get to transform any thought into becoming a part of your habits and beliefs. Your subconscious mind is like a plot of land. The thoughts you hold or allow are like seeds. You are like a farmer.
By the law of nature, you can either have good crops or weeds growing on your land. Passive thoughts (the thoughts you allow without questioning the reason behind them) are like weeds. The thoughts of riches you want to come true are like crops you wish to grow on your farm.
Your ability to use Autosuggestion will depend on your ability to focus on your desire to get rich until that desire becomes a stable fixation. In other words, you must make becoming wealth your number one priority.
Here is how you make Autosuggestion work!
Write out a statement about how you intend to build wealth.
Your statement must be in a specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely way. You should also write what you plan to do to earn the wealth you want to accumulate.
For example, suppose that you desire to make $1,000,000 by the last day of January five years from now, by investing in both real estates and working as a small business owner or entrepreneur. Your written statement should read like the following:
By the last day of January 20xx, I will have earned $1,000,000 in various amounts from different streams of income. I intend to make this money by investing in real estate and by working in my own business and helping others to become rich while building a large and profitable network of successful people.
Practice autosuggestion daily.
The next step is you find time during your day to read your statement actively aloud. Bestselling author Brian Tracy says you should write down your goals daily on a notepad without looking to make them stick and increase your chances of achieving them.
Repetition is the secret
The secret to reading or writing down your desire to build wealth is repetition.
By writing down or reading your intention daily, you are embedding the thoughts in your subconscious mind. And when your wealth building ideas are deeply rooted in your subconscious mind creating wealth becomes automatic
Develop a system to remind your subconscious mind
You also need to create a system that reminds you to do your daily or weekly autosuggestion of your desire to achieve financial independence. You can set up a reminder on your smartphone or on your tablet. I have a reminder set up on my cloud calendar that pops out daily on my iPhone and iPad.
Do your Autosuggestion with emotion
It is important that you don’t practice repeating your goals in an unfeeling manner. Why? Because your subconscious mind is likely to absorb thought that you read mix with emotion.

Autosuggestion and The Conscious Mind
The conscious is the “aware” part of your mind. It’s rational and responsive to the immediate surroundings in real-time. For instance: if you accidentally cut your finger, you feel pain. If your doctor confirms you don’t have an illness, you feel relieved. If your partner leaves you, you feel heartbroken. These are things you are aware of that your conscious mind is processing.
You feel pain, love, joy, and hunger — and most times, you can describe it. And autosuggestion can use these real-time experiences and thoughts to feed your subconscious repeatedly to transform your character. Your conscious mind is like the gatekeeper to your subconscious mind, and it only allows things through once your conscious mind accepts them. The problem arises when people don’t control the thoughts and feelings they are subjected to, and this influences their subconscious.
Autosuggestion and The Subconscious Mind
It is the section of the mind that records every detail that goes through the conscious and projects the dominant thoughts into reality.
Autosuggestion works by the thoughts you feed your mind repeatedly.
You can call it self-talk. So, negative self-talk would yield negative results and vice versa. The subconscious mind doesn’t understand the difference between reality and fantasy. Which you can use to your advantage. Using autosuggestion, you can influence your subconscious mind and make it believe you have what you desire.
Once your subconscious mind believes you have the thing you desire your body and mind transform its vibrational frequency. Once your frequency changes and you equal the vibration energy of the things you desire the Law of Attraction commences, and the physical object begins to draw into your reality. The power of autosuggestion impresses your subconscious mind with the desire repeatedly until the real target is received.
Think about it: When you surround yourself with positive people who frequently encourage you with inspirational information, your conscious mind will interpret it to derive what you want at a particular time in life.
If these people around you motivate you to build a business, memories of what you know (which are organised in your subconscious) will start revealing what type of businesses attracts you.
As you continue creating ideas, you’ll begin to see opportunities and a subjective approach you can use to be successful.
If you follow this up with actions, you’ll find yourself achieving success that you never imagined. Even when you don’t realise it, your reality is a product of autosuggestion. You keep telling your mind it is possible, and you keep suggesting to yourself what you can accomplish.
Imagine someone has lost their job, and negative and harmful thoughts dominate their mind. They are unconsciously suggesting negative energy into their subconscious mind. The stronger the emotions and the longer these negative suggestion continue there more the subconscious mind believes and starts to turn it into their reality.
Although sometimes it might seem that beating yourself up with harsh words will make you work harder, this is not the case. Consider your thoughts, and when you recognise they are shifting towards negative, immediately stop and substitute them with positive and happy thoughts. The more you can repeat the method, the quicker your mindset transforms, and you begin to attract the things that can benefit your existence.
Be cautious with your autosuggestion because you use it every day, and it does impact your subconscious mind. Consider your thoughts and emotions and restraint what you feed your mind. Your success depends on it.
What types of words or statements should you use?
It depends on your goals or desires to what your auto-suggestions might look like. I don’t advise using multiple auto-suggestions for different areas in your life.
I would focus on the most important change or goals, and once you achieve that goal, you can move to the next target.
1. Your auto-suggestion can be a single word like;
2. It could be an exact amount of money or weight loss target;
- 1 million dollars
- Double my monthly income
- Loss 10lbs
3. Finally, you can have a statement which creates more depth and target date.
- I have doubled my monthly income by the end of the year
- I am a millionaire before I’m 40 years old
- I have lost 10 pounds of fat in 12 weeks
- I have met the love of my life by the summer
Once you have your word or statement, the next step is to create Autosuggestions. You want to see your goal multiple time each day frequently in order for your subconscious mind to start the reprogramming process.
The more you see the statement, the deeper and faster the auto-suggestion will impress into your subconscious mind. Once in your subconscious mind, the universe will begin to attract your desire towards you. The last step is to take action on the ideas and opportunities you will be given.
How To Use Autosuggestion
1. Carry A Goals Card With Your Autosuggestion
Write your statement or the word onto a goals card no bigger than a credit card. You have to carry the goals card everywhere you go and look at the card often. Each time you look at the card visualise having the goal and how it will change your life. Read the word or statement either out loud or within, and it will begin to impress your subconscious mind.
2. Use Post-it Notes Around Your Home With Your Autosuggestion
Place post-it notes in places you spend a lot of your time. I place post-it notes on my car steering wheel and while I drive my subconscious constantly see the word or statement. I spend over 2 hours every day in my car, and by using post-it notes, it allows me to give my subconscious mind auto-suggestions during this time.
Post-it notes can work anywhere you regularly visit, and you can remove them easily, so others don’t have to see them.
3. Write Your Autosuggestion On Your Mirror
The best times of day to impress your subconscious mind is the first thing in the morning when you wake up or before sleep. To maximise your goals coming to reality, write your auto-suggestion on your bathroom mirror. When you brush your teeth in the morning and evening, you see the statement.
4. Use Your Mobile Phone To Trigger Suggestion
The average adult looks at their mobile phones more than 50 times every day. That’s 50 opportunities to impress your subconscious mind with your auto-suggestion. Write the words or statement on a piece of paper, take a picture with your mobile phone and save the photo as your screensaver. Each time you look at your phone, your auto-suggestions is the first thing you see.
5. Set Your Mobile Phone Alarm
Most smartphones allow you to set multiple alarms throughout the day and include a message. Enter your statement into your alarm and set the alarm to go off every hour through the day. The only way to silence your alarm is by turning it off. If you have a smartwatch, it will also appear on your watch, and you see the statement appear.
6. Place Your Autosuggestion On Your Desktop Computer
If you work on a computer or use a computer regularly create a wallpaper of your written statement. If you work 8 hours on your computer, you will impress your subconscious mind throughout the entire day. With that power, it won’t take long before your desires become a reality.
You can use words or numbers, and if other people look at your screen, you don’t need to explain a full written statement. A picture also works well on a desktop and doesn’t create suspicion.
7. Put Your Autosuggestion On Your Cup or Water Bottle
Buy a custom made cup or drinks bottle and put your auto-suggestion statement or word of it. You can also buy a cup or bottle and write your statement on to it. Like all the other techniques, it’s about seeing your statement as many times as possible during the day to impress your subconscious mind. You never go a day without drinking and its a period of time you can use to your advantage.
8. Listen To Positive Affirmations
Affirmations are the word or statement repeated to impress your subconscious mind. Listen to affirmations before and during sleep. First thing in the morning or the car on your way to work. You don’t consciously need to listen to the words, but your subconscious mind will hear and begin to reprogram your mind to those statements.
9. Practice Transcendental Meditation
Transcendental meditation is different from standard breathing meditation. During transcendental meditation, you choose a mantra, statement or word to bring your attention back.
During a 15-minute transcendental meditation session, you could repeat your statement or word hundreds of times.
10. Write Down Your Autosuggestion With Your Less Dominant Hand
The subconscious mind is impressed deeper when you write something down either on paper or electronically. When we write, we say the word and letters and our hand writes the word. If you use your less dominant hand, your focus increase 10x and your subconscious mind is further impressed.
Your handwriting will be hard to read but as writing gets strong, so does your goals. I will write my statement down every morning and repeat it for 10 minutes.
11. Design A Vision Board
Vision boards can help to reprogram your subconscious mind as the mind works in images rather than words.
Write your statement or word in the middle of your vision board and create images that relate to the words. Place the vision board on your desk or next to your bedside. Look at it regularly and visualise having the thing you desire.
How to Use Autosuggestion to Change Your Life or Health?
Autosuggestion works every day in our lives — whether you want it to or not. Here are four manageable techniques for the best approach to achieve your life goals and desires. The ability you have to become successful is unimaginable, and it begins with positive suggestion and repeated goal setting for your subconscious mind to understand what you truly want.
1. Awaken Your Consciousness
Instead of drifting through life and repeating negative thoughts in your mind without being aware, start observing. Be present and tell your mind what you want to feel. Don’t entertain the negative thoughts sneaking in your head; inform your mind immediately. If you want desirable results to manifest, you have to make a conscious effort. Here are some methods you can use to awaken your consciousness:
- Exercise mindfulness in your spiritual and non-spiritual life
- Exercise critical thinking
- Seek your truth and stop following advice recklessly

No matter how many times you repeat, “I want to become a millionaire,” you won’t become a millionaire if you don’t believe you can.
Remember that you can’t lie to your mind. If you state something but are hesitant with doubt, the subconscious will receive mixed signals, which will bring confusion.
It’s like informing your family that you’re going home but then follow up with another call claiming you are not sure if it’ll happen. This hesitancy and doubt are what bring confusion into your life.
Believe is the driving focus behind accomplishing success. It’s the enthusiasm that gets you up in the morning excited and energetic, ready to complete your goals. Without belief, it’s nearly impossible to find the motivation which is demanded to produce great success.
3. Be Consistent
For autosuggestion to work, you have to incorporate it into your routine. If you have definite goals you want to reach, don’t half-heartedly say it out loud during a busy day.
You need to set a timeline that you can follow up with daily without the distraction of the conscious mind. Furthermore, write your goals somewhere and keep them in a location you’ll regularly be able to read them. Using autosuggestion to help manifest life goals requires dedication.
4. Insert Emotions
Imagine if someone asks, “Do you want this money?” They are asking time and time again, but you don’t show any enthusiasm in your answers. This person will be reluctant to give you the money until you show some emotion. In “The Rule of Balance – Logical Mind vs. Emotional Heart,”
Dale Carnegie explains that the mind responds to emotions more than it responds to logic. Only by utilising autosuggestion and adding excitement confirms what you genuinely want to change in your current situation.

For you to change your situation, you need to reprogram your subconscius. And it isn’t easy. The subconscious mind default to you’re past habits and paradigms. It will take persistence and energy to transform your subconscious mind, but once you realise the phenomenal abilities hide inside your mind, nothing can prevent you from becoming successful.
You have to demonstrate to your mind and use autosuggestion frequently and forcefully. The mind won’t take you seriously if you affirm your goals now and then. It will slide back to its old habits and routines.

In Napoline Hills famous book “Think and grow rich” he includes a written statement for the purpose to attract money into your life. He states you should read the statement out aloud before sleep and first thing in the morning. As you carry out the instructions, see yourself in possession of the money.
Write the statement as followed
“By the first day of January 20.., I will have in my possession $50,000, which will come to me in various amounts from time to time during the interim. In return for this money, I will give the most efficient service of which I’m capable, rendering the fullest possible quantity, and the best possible service in the capacity of ……(describe the service or area you intend to sell).
“I believe that I will have this money in my possession. My faith is so strong that I can now see this money before my eyes. I can touch it with my hands. It is now awaiting transfer to me at the time, and in the proportion that I deliver the service, I intend to render in return for it. I am waiting for a plan by which to accumulate this money, and I will follow that plan when it is received”
